Jizera Mountains: Jizera Meadow
Jizera Meadow is a surprising place. This inconspicuous meadow is the coldest place in Poland. The average daily temperature, even on the warmest days of the year, never exceeds 15 degrees here. What's more, there is not a month here without subzero temperatures, even in July the temp drops below 0 degrees Celsius at night.
In the 1930s, a German village was located on the Jizera Meadow. The settlement had nearly 50 farmyards. Today there are no major traces of the village, except for the remains of the foundations of the old buildings. Nowadays, the only building located in the meadow is the "Chata Górzystów" mountain hostel (photo no. 3).
My Jizera hike map is here. Length of the route is 18.8 km and total ascent is 301 m. My hiking time was 6:30 h.
